In November 2008, Campbell, Philippart, Laigo & Associés hosted a General Meeting of TELFA, the European Lawyers’ Alliance of which it is the French member. There was also a large contingent from USLaw, TELFA’s North American associate. The meeting took place ten days after the landmark Presidential election in the U.S.A. and proceedings started with a debate in the Law Library of the Palais de Justice with a presentation by Dominique Moïsi, following the publication of the French version of his book, on the subject of “A New America for a New World”, followed by commentary by Jervis Smith of Citibank London and Colin Stanbridge, Managing Director of the London chamber of Commerce and Industry. Various presentations were made in the course of the General Meeting, including one by Edouard Bertrand and Richard Ryde on “Dispute Resolution in France: an Overview for Foreign Lawyers”. The administrative business of the Meeting included the confirmation of the firm of Siksniute & Partners as the new Lithuanian member and a presentation by the Maltese firm EMD which is a candidate for TELFA membership. The meeting closed with, Charles Campbell, after five years as Chairman of TELFA, handing over this position to Frans Knüppe of the Dirkzwager firm in the Netherlands.
